From strength to strength

Sometimes, I surprise even myself with my energy! Or maybe I mean I suprise myself particularly, since I know how little energy I had before and immediately after surgery. However, as i've blogged over the last couple of years, that energy has returned, occasionally stuttering, but never failing.
Today, I demonstrated to myself that I really am fitter than I have been for many years; I walked 5km in temperatures in the mid-20s C (not hot, I know, in absolute terms, but in terms of where I live, that's hot!), half of those uphill, carrying the footboard from a bed frame (don't ask!) When I started out, I imagined that I would need to take rest breaks. In fact, I carried the footboard back without pausing except for the point at which I needed to step aside to let some pedestrians get past me. Not only that, but I also had a 10 minute discussion with a neighbour when I got home, still holding the footboard! That did surprise me. Tomorrow, I shall move the headboard. This is larger and heavier, so it'll be interesting to see if I manage it as easily.
Anyway, it seems to me that my experiences of today give the lie to the fact that cancer is something you don't get over; you may never get over the fear that it will return, or the concern that you might have to decide what to do if it does, but, in cases like mine, at least, you do get over the physical difficulties you experienced whilst ill.
