Having been diagnosed with cancer and told I needed radiotherapy, I was unable to find much useful information about the treatment from a patient's perspective. This blog is a record of my own experience, a real description of being a cancer patient requiring radiotherapy, as well as an account of recovery and the after-effects of illness. As time goes on, my dealings with the health system in general may also be mentioned, as long as I continue to be clear of cancer.

Never eat items from the back of the fridge...
Another indication - perhaps - that radiation did something to my gut. Time was that I could eat anything that had been in the fridge for a few days - given that it hadn't turned blue, grown a beard or gone well past its use-by date. On Sunday, I found a cup of baked beans that I'd stashed at the back of the fridge about a week ago. They looked ok, they smelled ok, so I ate them. I know that ten years ago, or even five years ago, they would have had no effect on me. This time, however, I was ill for 24 hours. Though I'm now quite recovered, I do wonder if it's the radiation effect or simply the result of the ageing process that means my digestive tract is more sensitive than it used to be...
