Too few hours...

There are, I have decided, too few hours in the day to fit in everything I want to do! Six months ago, I wouldn't have said this; six months ago, I didn't want to do anything much more than sleep. Today, I've been racing around madly again, wishing I could multitask more effectively (though possibly showing people round the Abbey and marking assignments at the same time might be a bit problematic!)

What a surprise I had, this morning, too, while at the Abbey. I was retrieving the keys to the crypt from the vicar, who'd been showing a visitor round. Suddenly, I realised that the visitor was the professor whose course I'd taken 25 years ago when I took a module in The art and architecture of Anglo-Saxon and Viking England! So, I did the thing you should never do... "Hello," I cried, "I was one of your students 25 years ago." And I didn't tell him who I was - it seemed rather pointless to do so, to be honest; I don't recognise students I taught a couple of years ago, so expecting someone to remember me from a quarter of a century earlier would have been a bit too much, I think. The trouble with teaching is that, from time to time, someone from your past emerges, whether you remember them or not. We all remember our teachers, but I suspect that not many of us remember all our students...

Other than that, I've been frantically busy, participating in online meetings, writing responses to students, marking assignments... I'm supposed to work part-time these days, but I seem to be busier than ever! How I'm going to manage to keep up the walking and introduce daily swimming to my routine is, currently, a mystery, but I expect I'll manage.

It is wonderful to be well enough to do all these things. I feel as though I've been asleep for the last couple of years and that all that happened during that time was no more than a bad dream. Here's to being awake!
