A few weeks ago, I was writing about how much fitter I was feeling, and how I was walking every day. And so I was. How easy it is, however, to forget to take the daily walk, especially after a night when you haven't slept very well!
Last week, my neighbour and I started to take an early morning walk together every day, but, by the end of the week, we were finding it difficult to find the time to do this. I vowed that I would carry on by myself, since I can find an hour or so every day to take exercise if I put my mind to it.
The first day, I went for a walk. The second day, it was raining heavily and I decided to wait until the rain stopped... That was a mistake. I didn't take a walk that day. The next day, I'd run out of milk for my morning tea, so I walked to the village and back. But the next day, I thought I'd have a look to see how many assignments I'd received from students overnight. That was more than a mistake - it was fatal. I spent the next few days sitting in front of my computer, marking assignments. Somehow, the time just slips away when you're working on something like that. By yesterday, I was feeling really tired, and beginning to worry about why this might be. So, I dragged myself away from the marking and walked to the village to buy yet more milk for my morning tea. Result? I felt so much better!
So, rather than stumble from my bed to the computer in the morning, I have resolved to take that early morning walk, regardless of the weather. No longer will I slop about in my dressing gown, not noticing how fast the time is passing. And this plan will start.... as soon as I finish writing this message!
And I will join the gym today so that I can go for a daily swim!
Despite what I've always said about exercise being boring (it is!), I do feel so much better for it.
