It was another beautiful day, so I went out for a walk and to admire the countryside. I felt wonderful! So, imagine my horror when I came home to find a message from the nurse specialist at the hospital, asking me to call her. She began by saying she was "just calling to see how you are", but you can probably guess what sprang into my mind! So, half an hour of panic until I managed to get through to the treatment centre's receptionist (nurse specialist having turned on her answerphone and being unavailable!) Once I spoke to someone, my mind was put at rest; it seems that the nurse specialist calls everyone to discuss their progress with them "as a matter of routine". Wouldn't it have been nice if someone had mentioned that while I was having treatment?
At least the nurse specialist called within 30 minutes of me leaving a worried message on her answerphone. It had indeed been a routine call to make sure I was having no side-effects now. I do find it odd though, since she gave me her phone number and told me to call if I was at all worried about anything. I wasn't worried, I hadn't called, so why can't they just leave me alone if it's not urgent? Or if they really must follow up by phone, perhaps it would be a good idea to tell patients they're going to do that...
