As I said in my last post, I don't want my life to be ruled by 'I am someone who's had cancer'. This is partly why I've been quiet here for some time. The other reason is that the last month or so has been one in which I seem to have been bombarded by information about cancer in the news, on websites, in the mail, in TV adverstisements. All these things have either been telling me that my lifestyle (actually anyone's lifestyle) will result in cancer or asking me for money to support research into how to cure/avoid cancer.
Yes, I am suffering from information overload!
Am I more sensitive to this type of bombardment because of my medical history? Or is there some sort of moral panic erupting which tells us that if we don't do exactly what we're told, we'll develop cancer and it will be our fault? There comes a point at which you simply have to switch off and make your own choices, but combination of the current climate of moral outrage and the blame culture worries me.
