Yesterday, I went to the hairdresser's. Little did I know that this visit would bring back some memories I thought I'd more or less erased!
The hairdresser decided to use some 'gentle heat' on my hair and fetched a contraption that had several different discs held together by a central stalk. These discs were arranged about my head and a timer set. At the end of the session, the timer squeaked.
It took me just a couple of seconds to work out why the shape of this contraption was familiar. It was very reminiscent of the machinery in the radiotherapy suite I came to know so well, but much, much smaller.
When I pointed this out to my hairdresser, she got quite embarrassed, as people do when "cancer" or "radiotherapy" are mentioned.
Isn't it interesting how unexpectedly we receive reminders other points in our lives - and in such unexpected places!
