Well, until Friday last week, I hadn't really tried drinking coffee in its pure form - ie not as latte or cappucino or something else with a lot of milk in it. Why not? Because coffee was one of the things that, immediately post-radiotherapy, made me quite ill. Since I can now ingest both chocolate and onions (within reason) with impunity, though both of those were out of bounds for some time after radiotherapy, I foolishly assumed it would now be fine to drink coffee with milk added later rather than coffee made with steamed milk. All I will say is that it wasn't! I have to confess that even before radiotherapy coffee could have unfortunate effects on me, so there may, again, be a relationship between an ageing gut and what can / can't be easily digested, but I was somewhat surprised to find that this one item should still be off limits...
