sSince I started to walk the dogs regularly myself - see how much my health has improved! - I haven't been using the walking poles. I spotted them in my umbrella stand yesterday and realised that I really need to get them out again. Dog-walking is a good way to get out of the house, but my dogs like to sniff every blade of grass, so we don't always stride out as fast as I might like. Furthermore, they complain if I make them walk too fast; there's always a lamp post or telegraph pole to mark, and they get very grumpy if I make them hop, three-legged, down the street just as they've found their favourite marking point! Exercise definitely does improve my general well-being, much though it pains me to say this. So, maybe I'll be going out twice a day now - once with the dogs and once with the walking sticks (if the rain ever stops).
Why is it that a nice cup of tea and a good book are so much more attractive than the prospect of yomping across the bridle paths? And, annoyingly, so much less effective for your general level of fitness...
