Bah!

The things they don't tell you about radiotherapy!

Today, I was passing my dentist's surgery, so dropped in to check what time I'm due for my next appointment. In passing, I asked if they needed to know about my radiotherapy. It seems they did, but nobody had warned me that I should mention it, so it would have been all the same if I hadn't thought to do so.

Apparently, they need assurances from my consultant that I can have dental treatment, since they're worried that my resistance to infection may require me to take antibiotics first... Hmm, either the dentist is too cautious or the hospital should have let me know that this was something that was likely to come up. What a bore!

Rather than try to get hold of the specialist nurse by telephone in order to obtain the information the dentist wants, I have changed my dental appointment so that it happens after the next hospital appointment. That way I will, at least, be able to make sure I have everything I need, since I will have a captive audience in the nurse who can give me any necessary forms, prescriptions etc.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was some joined-up thinking in the health professions that meant that when you finish treatment, you're given a list of items you may find you need if you go to your doctor, dentist, homeopath etc.? It would save so much time in the long run!
