Putting brain in gear

Today is my first time back working in the Abbey shop - again, a voluntary activity. Although I've been keeping my mind active over the last few months by teaching online, I haven't been doing anything that engages me directly with "thinking on my feet". Working in a shop is much more physically demanding that you might think - stock has to be unpacked, catalogued and stored, customers have to be helped. Tackling the intricacies of the till this morning will be a test of how energetic I really feel; tills always confuse me and I generally end up having to put notes into the drawer to explain the apparent shortfall of several thousand pounds; usually, this is because I have pressed the wrong key!

Like working in the Abbey itself, before my illness had been diagnosed, I would go to the shop feeling tired and looking forward to the moment when I'd be able to go home to lie down or take a nap. Now, with my new found energy, I'm anticipating a brisk morning's trading. Since it's market day today, and the market takes place outside the Abbey, I hope that there may be quite a good turnover of visitors, particularly since the tourist season has now started properly.

My next move is to go back to the Guild of Guides in the town and start taking groups of visitors around the historically interesting landmarks (again, voluntarily).

Now to prepare for what should be a pleasant morning's work.
