Having spent a peaceful afternoon in a library, reading up on bastle houses, I was feeling fairly relaxed when I arrived home. My mood changed somewhat on discovering that someone had managed to demolish one of my gateposts in my absence. A heap of bricks, covered in white and silver paint, was lying in my driveway. I hope the car that did the damage has a huge dent! My neighbours were all out when it happened, so we don't know whodunnit...
Luckily, the gatepost is more or less intact and can be concreted back into position, but it's very heavy. Before my surgery, I would probably have tried to shift it myself. Now, I'm being sensible and leaving it until someone with appropriate lifting gear can move it.
I wonder if this is what the nurse meant when she said, "if you're sensible, we can negotiate about the three-monthly visits"...
