One small step etc

When I began to have radiotherapy, I decided to grow my hair, as anyone who's read this blog from the beginning might remember. This wasn't because I was under the impression my hair would fall out - radiotherapy only affects hair in the immediate vicinity of the treatment (and it does grow back, in case you're wondering). Rather, I wanted to make a statment - just because I'd had major surgery followed by quite an aggressive form of treatment, didn't mean that I was going to retreat into the shadows.
Now, just over two and a half years later, my hair is beyond the base of my shoulder blades and I can, for the first time ever, put it up into a bun, something I've always wanted to do. I imagined long hair would be so much more versatile than short. So it is, but it's hot and itchy, it blows in my face in the wind, it clogs up the drains, it takes ages to dry - and it never looks tidy! So, I've made my point. And tomorrow I'm having it all cut off. I can't wait - I feel as though I'm getting my life back. Maybe it's a giant leap...
