It's official. Standing around is very tiring. I've spent three days this week taking part in invigilation of some type. You wouldn't think that pacing an examination hall would be tiring or in the least physically demanding, but, in fact, I have been exhausted - perhaps because the beginning of the week was hot and the exams I invigilated took place in a 19th century glass conservatory with limited window opening and where the heating was on full blast (in June in the northern hemisphere!) At least I didn't have to take the exam in the heat, with the sun blazing down on me!
One good thing, though - at least I am able to stand around for 2-3 hours at a time. There was a period in my life, about three years ago, when standing for five minutes was a major effort. If the rain stops this morning, the dogs and I will take a 5km walk. If it doesn't, I think we'll confine it to 3km - that additional 2km of getting soaked probably isn't worth it, given we're all ageing and the last thing we all need is to get drenched. It doesn't do elderly bones any good, and now that I'm relatively sprightly again, I really don't want to be hobbling arthritically or rheumatically before I really need to be...
Six weeks to go to the next hospital visit. Time to book my pre-hospital acupuncture appointment. It really does calm me down.
