The spaniel incident

Ok, I admit it. There is nothing wrong with me! This was proved without a doubt today when I was walking the dogs (who are now complaining when I get their leads out, since they don't want to walk as far as I do!)

As we came back up the hill on our way home, a black spaniel flew out of a driveway - the owner hadn't closed the gates - using the most disgraceful language at my dogs. Remember, retrievers are big, heavy dogs (both of mine are around 30 - 33 kg) and if they decide they're going to go after something, it's difficult to stop them if you're attached to them by their leads.

Naturally, they were both enraged by the spaniel - they don't appreciate being sworn at, and there was an exchange of rudeness and a lot of pulling and tugging at the leads, as well as growling (and that was only me!) Now, the last time there was an incident of this sort - when a Jack Russell went for them - I was at my weakest point before surgery and they pulled me over. Indeed, they pulled me to the ground quite frequently as I grew increasingly unwell. Today, I stayed on my feet and managed to avert a really nasty incident by dragging them away from the swearing spaniel. Incredible - I can't believe that I wasn't even out of breath as a result; an adrenalin rush, yes, but that's all...

I must remember to tell people about this when they say to me, meaningfully, "And how are you now?"...
