Arrangements

I feel both sad and flattered today. My dear godfather's wife (my godmother) and her daughter have been to visit me. I am so glad they were able to do so - it was important to meet them and to express my sympathy in person although, of course, we didn't really talk about the elephant in the room (ironic, given that I believe elephants have to be discussed, to find that I couldn't raise the topic).

I have been asked to join the family at the cremation, and this is incredibly important to me; I am so touched to be asked to join them at such an important and private occasion. My godmother supported me through my mother's funeral and cremation, so I am pleased to be able to help the family in my turn.

This event makes me even more determined to work to raise money for Cancer Research UK; we need more research to help not only cancer sufferers but their families, to work through the issues around this condition. I think this is not only a positive way to remember my godfather, but also a positive way to make use of my newly-acquired energy.
