Beyond a joke?

A wet, dark, miserable day. So, what did I decide to do? After a morning working on a tender for a project, I decided to go for a walk! I needed to go to the newsagent's shop to pay my newspaper bill, so, rather than jump in the car and drive there, I put on my waterproofs and strode out into the cold, dark afternoon.

I do find it interesting that it never even occurred to me to drive. It's a 10-15 minute walk in each direction, uphill on the way back, but the thought of going by car is no longer attractive (unless it's after dark, in which case I drive because the street lighting is rather dim).

As well as the newsagent's, I visited the greengrocer's, the florist's, the hairdresser's (to make an appointment), the local convenience store and the shop of a young woman jeweller who makes and sells what can only be termed, "beautiful things". The last visit was the best, for all sorts of reasons! I hadn't been in for a chat for a few weeks, and the first thing that was said to me was, "You look fantastic - like a completely different person"! So, that's made me happy for the rest of the day. It's good to know that not only do I feel better, but I look better, too.

And as for the walk back up the hill? I was weighed down with packets of rice, fruit, vegetables, a lot of heavy items, and yet I made the journey in half the time that I was able to manage it twelve months ago - and that was when I wasn't carrying anything.

So, you see, there really is life after radiotherapy.
