How time flies when you're busy. I see I haven't posted anything here since last Thursday! A friend came to visit, so I've been out a-touristing, which has been lovely. And it's nice to know that I can now have late nights and early mornings without collapsing in a heap for several days afterwards (which is what was happening last year as I got sicker and sicker).
We have been very active, going to the seaside - somewhat marred by the fact that the sea fret came down 50 metres from the beach, so it was impossible to see the sand, let alone walk on it, even though we had warm sunshine and clear views once we moved behind the 50 metre mark. Never mind, we got our "fish and chips and ice cream at the seaside" day out and avoided the heavy rain that had hit areas further inland. We also did some walking (to the pub and back in the evening!) and even saw a red squirrel up close and personal for the first time in some years.
Then, the next day, we visited a farmers' market, explored the Abbey church (and Crypt - I really must add 'crypt keeper' to my CV to see if anyone notices), went to see that wonderful landmark, The Angel of the North and then on to a concert by Kathryn Tickell. Again, we dodged the frequent downpours, though we could see that there had been extremely heavy rain.
Yesterday, my friend flew home, and, since then, I've been catching up with cleaning, tidying, email and so on. And now, between online tutoring sessions, I'm back to the blog, astounded that I can do so much now that I couldn't have done a year ago...
