I would never have imagined that not being able to eat roughage would have been so disturbing. Today, I tried my first piece of fruit in four weeks. Utter bliss. From now on, I will never complain about fruit and vegetables, not even celery.
I suppose I could have continued to 'eat my greens', but, by Week 3 of pelvic radiotherapy, that wasn't really an option if I didn't want my diet to consist of green things and loperamide only. It will be lovely, though, to get away from all that starchy, fatty food I've been confined to for the last few weeks; some people may want to each junk food. I can't say it's an experience I would want to repeat. And what did I eat to break my vegetable fast? A huge, forced, flavourless, out-of-season strawberry. And it was wonderful!
The only cloud on the horizon was that my first follow-up appointment arrived today. It isn't until mid-May. I wonder how much worrying I can do between now and then?
