Having been diagnosed with cancer and told I needed radiotherapy, I was unable to find much useful information about the treatment from a patient's perspective. This blog is a record of my own experience, a real description of being a cancer patient requiring radiotherapy, as well as an account of recovery and the after-effects of illness. As time goes on, my dealings with the health system in general may also be mentioned, as long as I continue to be clear of cancer.

Keeping Active
Having been banned from swimming until after my treatment has been completed - apparently the chlorine, or whatever passes for chlorine, causes skin problems around the treatment site - today, I decided to make an effort to find those Nordic walking poles I've been muttering about for weeks. I went to the nearby market town and, although I'd walked past it at least a hundred times and not noticed the huge pile of walking poles in the window, succeeded in my search at the first shop I visited. Not only that, but I also found some anti shock walking shoes. So, now all I have to do is pluck up the courage to be seen in public with the walking poles and shoes - perhaps I'll go out after dark!

Glad to hear that you've found the courage to at least buy the equipment - an important first step... Nordic walking is really great exercise, so never mind looking stupid :-) .
