Handy hint

As well as developing trust in my radiotherapy team, today I suddenly realised something that I'm going to pass on, since it could be useful if ever you have to attend a radiotherapy unit. If you're given a choice as to time of day for your appointments, ask for the morning! Why? The earlier you attend for treatment, the less likely it is that there will be a delay. Backlogs build up as the day progresses, with patients arriving late, machines breaking down and having to be fixed and so on. If you don't mind having to wait for an hour or more for your appointment, by all means ask for the afternoon.

As I've already said, I like morning appointments because they leave you free for the rest of the day - and you won't have to hang around hospital waiting rooms for longer than you expected. Indeed, you might even be called through early! I was today, so it's just as well I always get to the hospital with ten minutes to spare...

Nineteen more sessions... and counting...
